Charity Fundraising

Our club aims to raise funds each year to support a different local charity, nominated by our members at our Annual General Meeting. Typically, we prefer to support the smaller local charities who often provide excellent assistance to the local community but do not have anywhere near the level of funding support of the national charities.

During 2025 we will be supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), registered charity number 294354, Hertfordshire regional branch. By specifically fundraising for the Hertfordshire regional branch, we will be confident that people living with Motor Nerone Disease (MND) in Hertfordshire will benefit.

MND affects the nerves known as motor neurones, and can lead to a wide range of symptoms which although differing in different people, can affect the ability to walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. There may be a need, for example, for the installation of a chair lift, a Riser Recliner Chair, a home cleaner, garden access improvements. Whilst our club won’t be able to say specifically how money raised to support the MNDA charity will be used, we recognise this is a great way to help provide support for those living with MNDA in Hertfordshire.

During 2024 the club fundraised £4532 to support BODbus, part of Broxbourne Organisation for Disabled, registered charity 1019550.

BOD is a small local charity offering disabled people and their carers a break from the 'four walls' of their homes, meeting each Wednesday morning for tea/coffee in Turnford. In addition BOD organises coach trips to places of interest like Blenheim Palace, London Museums,The London Eye, Southend. BOD will also organise other activities such as a fish and chips get together, and Christmas lunch.

Local transport for local individuals and smaller groups is provided by BODbus using BODbus's own wheelchair friendly minibuses with their own appropriately trained volunteer drivers. The fundraising during 2024 by our bowls club will be assisting BODbus towards the costs of the upkeep of their vehicle fleet.
